Artificial Intelligence in Veterinary Ultrasound

For decades now, ultrasonography is being utilized in animals’ health care. Artificial intelligence can aid ultrasound diagnoses through the classification of lesions and early prediction of major diseases. We design, develop and implement AI solutions aiding data-driven decision making.

Our state-of-the-art technology is a deep learning algorithm that utilizes mammary gland ultrasound images of dairy cows to perform useful predictions. The full research article published in Computers and Electronics in Agriculture presents the research project that led to the development of our solution.

The aim of this project is to develop an A.I. powered service called “Udder Productivity Index” that classifies herds into four categories according to productive capacity. This novel service aids farmers and veterinarians worldwide to assess herd udder health and make data-driven decisions regarding herd management. “Udder productivity index” could be adopted by dairy farms and associations as part of a smart dairy farming strategy leading to sustainable management and improving productive efficiency.

This innovative technology can also be adapted for the examination and assessment of other vital organs and the early diagnosis of costly diseases in dairy production.
